Labourer

Job Title: General Labourer (OFA Level 2)

Job Description

This role supports a busy construction site by performing general labour duties and acting as a safety-conscious team member with an OFA Level 2 certification. You will help identify on-site hazards, communicate safety concerns to the Site Superintendent, and provide direction to other labourers while maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient work area.

Responsibilities

• Identify potential hazards and safety concerns on the construction site and promptly report them to the Site Superintendent.
• Lead and direct approximately two labourers in performing general clean-up and material handling tasks.
• Carry out general labour duties including cleaning up garbage and debris throughout the site.
• Install guard rails and other basic safety or protective features as required.
• Move hoses, assist with dewatering activities, and support other site preparation tasks.
• Perform regular material handling, including lifting and moving items up to 50 lbs consistently.
• Use basic hand tools safely and effectively for day-to-day tasks.
• Maintain a tidy, organized work area to support site safety and efficiency.
• Stay actively engaged and productive throughout the workday, proactively seeking tasks when needed.
• Collaborate with the Site Superintendent and various subcontractor teams to support ongoing site operations.
• Delegate and coordinate tasks among other labourers to ensure work is completed efficiently and safely.
• Follow all site safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
• Work scheduled shifts including Saturdays, and be available for occasional Thursday work when needed.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 6 months of experience working in construction or a similar general labour environment.
• Valid OFA Level 2 (First Aid Level 2) certification.
• Comfort performing a wide range of labour duties, including repetitive physical tasks.
• Ability to consistently lift and carry up to 50 lbs during the workday.
• Experience delegating tasks and providing direction to other labourers on-site.
• Familiarity with general construction practices and environments.
• Ability to use basic hand tools safely and effectively.
• Comfort working in a team-oriented setting and collaborating with multiple trades.
• Willingness to work Saturdays as part of the regular schedule.
• Ownership and use of all required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Traffic control or TCP experience is an asset.
• Previous experience on multifamily construction projects is beneficial.
• Access to a car is an advantage for commuting to the site.
• Strong awareness of safety practices and hazard identification on construction sites.
• Reliable, self-motivated, and able to stay busy without constant supervision.
• Good communication skills to effectively report issues and coordinate tasks with others.

Work Environment

You will work on a multifamily construction project in the Lynn Valley area, alongside a variety of subcontractor trades in a busy, active site environment. The schedule is full-time at approximately 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week, with regular shifts Monday to Wednesday and Friday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and occasional Thursday work when required. The site is both parking and transit friendly, making it accessible by car or public transportation. You will report to the Site Superintendent and work in a setting that is described as easy to get along with and collaborative. The role is physically demanding and involves working outdoors and indoors as site conditions require, using standard construction tools and equipment while wearing appropriate PPE at all times.
