PRIMARY FUNCTION
Under broad managerial direction, the Commercial Account Manager 1 provides commercial account services to commercial, agricultural and organizational members in an assigned region. This position analyzes financial statements, evaluates security, and establishes loan terms and interest rates. Approves commercial mortgages and loans within assigned lending limits and monitors commercial loans to ensure adherence to established policies and procedures. Initiates action to improve growth and development of the assigned portfolio, pursues new business opportunities and initiates action on delinquencies to mitigate loss.
This is an entry-level position focused on developing the depth and breadth of skills and knowledge required to function independently as a Commercial Account Manager.
Within the business region, it is essential for the Commercial Account Manager 1 to develop a visible profile as a member of the business and professional community and to utilize this presence to market the products and services of the Credit Union.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Develops and administers an assigned commercial portfolio. This includes opening business accounts and analyzing commercial credit proposals, financial statements, and appraisal information. Audits information for correctness and evaluates collateral security.
2. Approves commercial mortgages and loans within assigned lending limits and makes recommendations to the Manager, Commercial Banking for loan applications in excess of limits.
3. Negotiates loan terms and interest rates relative to risk, needs of the borrower and cost of administration ensuring an appropriate return to the Credit Union.
4. Responsible for safeguarding commercial assets and liabilities by maintaining the quality of the assigned portfolio through annual reviews and ongoing monitoring.
5. Initiates action to improve growth and development of the Credit Union and its commercial portfolio by analyzing member needs, trends, competitor's offerings, recommending revisions to the marketing plan, cross-selling all products and services, and pursuing new business by establishing and maintaining liaison with business community contacts.
6. Under the general direction, participates in the collection of delinquent commercial accounts and all delinquency actions including legal actions by analyzing loan status. Contributes to the development of "work out" plans and initiating action to mitigate loss. Prepares Regions Out of Order, Watch List, Delinquent, and project reports.
7. As a member of the Commercial Banking team, participates in the development and maintaining of a commercial loans policy for the Credit Union.
8. Liaises with corporate lawyers, CUCBC, other financial institutions/credit unions, members and potential members.
9. Works closely with the branch management team to ensure the assigned commercial loan portfolio is properly administered.
10. Oversees the production and distribution of a variety of reports including loan statistics, insurance and delinquency levels. Assists the Manager, Commercial Banking with completion of projects and administrative tasks, as assigned.
11. Ensures a high personal standard of service and performance by actively participating in other duties assigned, including educational seminars and training programs. |

Skills Required:
|
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of commercial lending policies, complex procedures, techniques, documentation requirements;
Knowledge of statutory guidelines and regulations governing commercial lending;
Knowledge and applied skills in business development;
Knowledge of all Prospera Credit Union products and services;
Knowledge of collection processes, including legal requirements;
Knowledge of banking systems and personal computer applications;
Knowledge of accounting policies and procedures;
Ability to counsel members using diplomacy, objectivity and sympathy;
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
Ability to plan, schedule, organized and prioritize work assignments;
Ability to exercise judgement in risk assessment;
Ability to analyze financial statements.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Bachelors Degree in Business or Finance, plus 1 to 3 years of progressive commercial lending experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. |
