Vanderpol’s Eggs is looking for a Machine Operator to work from its Abbotsford facility. The primary role of the Carton Machine Operator position is the safe and efficient operation of the TR800 and TR22 carton machines and the Bag-in-Box filling system, maintaining standards according to regulatory requirements, and accurately completing documentation required for the manufacture of safe and high quality food products. The Carton Machine Operator is a member of the Vanderpol team and as such, participates in team efforts to achieve department goals, works closely with pasteurizing and dock/cooler/freezer personnel, and provides support to other roles within the egg operations as required.  This position requires shift work, weekend and holiday rotations in a 24/7 operation VEL.
 
The Machine Operator role includes:
  • Production - Prepare the TR800 and TR22 carton machines and the Bag-in-Box filling system for operation, perform routine maintenance to ensure ongoing operation, and shut down carton machines and filling system at end of production run.
  • Quality Control - Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulatory requirements.

Skills Required:

COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills, Ability)
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Sound working knowledge of and adherence to HACCP and SQF requirements and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to perform under HACCP and SQF standards for quality.
  • Able to operate CIP/Disinfect cycle for the TR22.
  • Know sanitation of rooms, and equipment, CIP, and steaming cycles.
  • Ability to operate Domino printer I.E. change/create messages, print out labels.
  • Effectively collaborates with others to achieve area and team goals. Communicates information with fellow team members, lead hand, and other department team members.
  • Time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks within a fast-paced environment.
  • Define and evaluate problems, make rational recommendations, and implement solutions.
  • Participate in required meetings, safety discussions, and committees providing input and recommendations.
  • Deal with changes, delays, or unexpected events in a calm and timely manner. I.E. Willingness to learn new equipment.
 
To be considered for this position you must meet the minimum following requirements.
  • High school diploma and two years’ experience in a high volume manufacturing environment related to food, chemical packaging, and/or a similar industry.
  • Carton machine operation.
  • Exposure to HACCP, SQF, or other quality systems.
  • Strong technical competence I.E. Proven ability to safely operate production/processing equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude. Dexterity to turn valves, connect pipes, assemble fittings.
  • Fluent English (verbal and written communication skills) with the ability to follow and give clear instructions.
  • Highly detail oriented.
  • Able to lift 20 kg (55 lbs.)
  • Able to work in confined spaces.
  • Capability to work independently without constant supervision.
  • Working proficiency in MS Word, MS Outlook, and spreadsheet/database (MS Excel). PLC experience an asset.
